ASPECT is a robust and scalable electronic data capture platform for the administration
of simple and complex assessments. Mainly targeted toward the complex assessments
used in mental health and substance abuse research, ASPECT provides electronic forms
in the following categories:
The ASPECT Rating Station combines the simplicity and ease of use of traditional
paper forms with the power and flexibility of computer-based assessment. For maximum
mobility a user can administer an assessment using a Tablet PC, Notebook, or Desktop
PC.
The electronic data capture component of ASPECT facilitates the recording of a subject's
responses. The Rating Station greatly improves efficiency over paper-based methods
of data capture as it streamlines complex psychometric instruments by incorporating
intelligent computer-adaptive testing and decision-support technology. The electronic
data capture component verifies patient data to help minimize errors by pinpointing
inaccurate or inconsistent responses.

Working on Tablet PCs, desktops, and laptop computers, multiple users interact simultaneously
with patient information and chart their course of treatment through interconnected
ASPECT Rating Stations. The flexible system architecture of ASPECT provides for
the seamless exchange and sharing of information in team-based treatment settings.

The ClinicalSync subsystem detects the existence of any conflict in subject data
and applies pre-defined rules to create a consistent set of information in the ASPECT
Data Source. These conflict resolution rules, configured through the ASPECT Control
Center, can be based on the most recent clinical data, a preferred location, device,
or a preferred user. Regardless of the conflict resolution strategy selected, all
clinical data and audit records are retained in the ASPECT Data Source, allowing
the review of any conflicts detected by the ClinicalSync subsystem.
The ASPECT Control Center is a platform-independent graphical development environment
that assists psychiatrists, psychologists, clinicians, and other form developers
with the definition of new clinical instruments, the creation of customized reports,
and the revision of the logic behind existing form and report definitions. The key
features of the Control Center are listed below:
Complex psychometric instruments are easily created with the ASPECT Control Center
form designer. The intuitive graphical user interface allows the user to design
the look-and-feel of the form, add intelligent alerts and computer-adaptive instructions,
and create versions in different languages. Custom report templates are quickly
designed by picking a technique to calculate scores, choosing a standardization
formula to transform raw scores to study norms, and inserting charts and graphs.
ASPECT is highly secure, designed to protect sensitive patient information from
unauthorized access. The ASPECT Control Center is used to manage security and privacy
policies, review audit trails, and verify electronic signatures, guaranteeing the
integrity and security of ASPECT data and enabling compliance with the Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The management of security includes
the Rating Stations' ACL management which gets applied when a sync is performed.
In order to maximize mobility, ASPECT provides the ability to collect data off-line
using the Rating Stations, and once they are connected to a network, the data is
securely synchronized to a Control Center which addresses the conflict that may
have been introduced.
ASPECT is built around the open XML data exchange standard, allowing collected information
to be easily shared with other electronic medical record, billing, and statistical
analysis systems. As a result, the ASPECT Control Center provides exports mechanism
to many formats such as SPSS, SAS, CSV, XML and even CSDIC ODM.
